The Hon. Herbert G. Woods, Jr., Esq., is a Judge with the City of New York, Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings. He was appointed as a Judge in August, 2006. Prior to his judicial appointment he was a Lieutenant in the New York City Police Department, until his retirement in January, 2005. During his tenure with the NYPD, he was appointed to Assistant Commissioner, Department Advocate - responsible for all Police Department Uniform and Civilian Disciplinary matters.
Judge Woods, has developed a mentoring course entitled Character & Integrity Building- No Excuses. For the past five years he has been presenting this course at institutions throughout the City of New York, including, NYC Public Schools, Covenant House, the Bell Foundation and Career Institute of Technology. In addition, he has done motivational/mentoring presentations at numerous schools, religious institutions, DC 37, local community groups and NYPD Forum on Gun Violence. He has also been the Keynote speaker at several NYC Public School Graduations.
Judge Woods was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn College earning a B.A. in Sociology. He is a graduate of New York Law School and was admitted to the NY State Bar as a practicing Attorney in October, 1983. He currently resides in Queens, NY.
